An independent investigation recently conducted by The Chicago Tribune revealed that some of the most popular cellphones might come with radio frequency (RF) radiation levels well above the legal safety limit. This finding has drawn public attention to cellphone RF safety and also prompted a follow up investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States.

The 44th installment of the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) Exhibition recently concluded in Rome, Italy. At the conference, Semtech featured several products for the critical hyper-scale data center and 5G wireless markets. The technologies demonstrated by Semtech from its diverse portfolio of Optical solutions include the ClearEdge® CDR platform for low-cost 25G SFP28 modules that will be an essential component of the 5G infrastructure build out. Additionally, Semtech demonstrated its new line of Tri-Edge CDRs and FiberEdge™ linear Physical Media Dependent (PMD) devices that will help drive current Cloud data center build outs.

As I’ve discussed in a previous blog post, the ability to locate assets, understand the context they are in and what is happening to them in a given moment, is in many ways the “killer app” in the internet of things (IoT). This is particularly true of many of the assets that leverage low power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies to enable end-to-end IoT solutions today for which the long range and low power of Semtech’s LoRa® devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa Technology) is a key enabler of customer value.

On September 20, I was honored to represent Semtech at The Alibaba Cloud Computing Conference 2018 in Hangzhou, China. At the conference, Alibaba Cloud presented its impressive strategy for the Internet of Things (IoT) market and the “Darwin Plan” was officially launched, announcing the comprehensive promotion of LoRa®-based network coverage and popularization. Alibaba Cloud’s IoT vision is for every enterprise in the future to integrate Semtech’s LoRa® devices and wireless radio frequency technolocy (LoRa Technology).
