For many years, wireless communication technology has faced a trade-off between achieving long transmission ranges and supporting high data rates. Semtech’s LR2021, the first radio in the LoRa Plus™ line, incorporates 4th Generation LoRa® IP with an innovative Fast Long-Range Communication (FLRC) modulation, enabling data rates of up to 2.6 Mbps on both sub-GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands. This advanced modulation supports diverse applications, including reliable image transfer over extensive distances with strong penetration through materials, all while maintaining the low power requirements necessary for battery-powered devices.
Fast Long-Range Communication (FLRC), featured in the LR2021, offers an enhanced link budget and significantly higher data throughput. By utilizing coherent Minimum-Shift Keying (MSK) modulation, FLRC achieves long-range transmission with notable spectral and energy efficiency. Unlike LoRa, FLRC does not employ spread spectrum methods; consequently, the raw bit rate is equivalent to the channel bandwidth prior to the application of Forward Error Correction (FEC). This direct mapping enables FLRC to deliver higher throughput while maintaining the extended range that long-range applications require.

Wireless battery-powered security cameras benefit from FLRC's ability to transmit images throughout building interiors and surrounding areas without extensive infrastructure investments and gateway densification.
FLRC technology supports child monitoring systems that surpass traditional baby monitors and Wi-Fi cameras, enabling image transmission from various locations in and around the home.
For remote drone operations requiring real-time image transfer, FLRC sustains reliable transmission over extended distances while maintaining control connectivity.
